Mahnaz Afkhami is an Iranian women's rights activist, scholar, and former Minister for Women's Affairs in Iran. She has been a prominent figure in advocating for women's rights and gender equality in Iran and internationally.
She pursued higher education in the United States, earning a master's degree in anthropology from the University of Denver.
She later became a professor at several American universities, specializing in women's studies.
In the 1970s, Afkhami returned to Iran and served as the Minister for Women's Affairs under the government of Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi.
